With the success of companies like Tesla and the
introduction of electric vehicles by more mainstream companies, it only seems
right that Jeep would step up and offer electric options in its most popular
model. Jeep has named it the Wrangler 4XE and claims it will be available in
the first quarter of 2021.

The Jeep 4XE is the perfect step into a new world. It keeps
familiar features of an already proven platform while bringing a completely new
technology to the table.
Why would anyone want to put an electric motor in a Jeep?
Well, for one, it allows your Wrangler to achieve a 0-60 time of 6.0 seconds.
It also boasts an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant
torque. While no one is drag racing their Jeeps, this could prove useful in an
off-road situation where torque needs to be there right when you want it.

Not sold? Most JL’s I see on the road (even if they do see
the trails) are daily driven. Another huge advantage of E-Selec (Jeep’s name
for their electric drive mode) is the estimated 50MPGe. This means the 4XE will
see the equivalent energy consumption of a gas vehicle getting 50mpg.

If the Jeep is all electric, why does it have a gas engine?
A plug-in hybrid can work in a couple ways. When set to full electric mode, the
vehicle will run solely off its electric engine. In this mode, the Wrangler is
estimated to have a range of 25 miles before you will need to recharge. A
plug-in hybrid also allows you to combine electric and gasoline power, which
gives a final driving range of about 400 miles. With the combination of cheap
energy and power on tap, I can see these becoming very popular.
